Bio: S. Gary Brown, D.V.M., DACVS
Dr. Brown obtained his DVM from The Ohio State University in 1965 and became a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon in 1971. Following his residency at the prestigious Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York, he served as AMC's service head of orthopedics from 1968 to 1972. In 1972, Dr. Brown came to the Bay Area as a founding member of the Berkeley Veterinary Medical Group with Drs. Stephen Ettinger, Ray Roberts, and James W. Ticer. He opened the Veterinary Orthopedic & Surgery Service in September 1975 in San Jose and now practices in Fremont.
Dr. Brown has written a variety of veterinary related articles for the Irish Setter Club of America (ISCA). He has also proudly served as a sweepstakes judge in a variety of dog shows for Irish Setters, Gordon Setters, Greyhounds, and Golden Retrievers..
His latest ISCA project is helping spearhead efforts to unravel DNA markers for Canine Epilepsy and Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD).
Dr. Brown enjoys gardening, attending dog shows, and enjoying the company of his Irish Setter, Grady, and his pig, Willow. He is also very happy to be a grandpa to 3 year old Nathan.
